Now that we know these principles, what are the next steps?

Step #1

Find out what other people want and figure out what you really enjoy giving.

To do so, answer this question: If you had a billion dollars, have traveled everywhere, had fun in every part of the country, did everything imaginable that you wanted to do, you’ve donated to every charity and you’ve relaxed for five years straight and now you have another thrity years to live, what would you do?

Please understand that when you are answering this question, you must assume that you have done everything. There is nothing you can do for yourself anymore.

You might say to yourself that you would help orphaned children, start a hockey camp, help the elderly or whatever. Whatever your answer is, realize that this is something you would do for free and you find internal pleasure doing this venture.

Step #2

Usually the next step after figuring out what your dream job is, is handling the reasons why you are not doing your dream job now. Here are some of the common rebuttals:

“Sounds good, but I don’t have that billion dollars”.

What do you have to do to get the right amount of money to start your dream job? What are the other options you have to get that money?
What is stopping you from doing what you need to do?
How can you get over that obstacle?
Is this the only obstacle in your way? If so, understand that if you solve this problem, you will have that dream job. So solving this obstacle is the only thing you need to do to achieve your dream

“I don’t have the skills to do what I want”

How do you get the skills for your job? Are there other options to get those skills, like another job?
Can you use the skills in your current job to get you a job that is more aligned with your dream job?
What is stopping you from doing what you need to do?
How can you get over that obstacle?
Is this the only obstacle in your way? If so, understand that if you solve this problem, you will have that dream job. So solving this obstacle is the only thing you need to do to achieve your dream

“I don’t have the time to do this”

Well that’s up to you. It seems you do not want to do your dream job enough and what you are doing is more important.

“My dream job will not pay the money I need to support myself” or “ I won’t make a billion dollars with this dream job”

Really? I can tell you that you have not thought about this idea enough. You need to come up with more ideas on how you can make money with this idea.

Step #3

Plan. Act. Re-plan and Act some more.

The truth is that you cannot know how to perfectly execute your idea or find your dream job. Flexibility is the key to finding your perfect idea and dream job. The reason being is that you are dealing with people and they have their own plans too. So instead of making sure the plan is correct, focus on your end goal instead. You will find that the more people go off your plan, the more you will find it will be more aligned to your end goal. This is why you have to re-plan and act again.
