Live a Longer and Happier Life

posted by Stevie B on April 16th, 2008

Happy Old CoupleCan people live longer? What is the magical formula to stay young, look young, feel great, increase your longevity and slow your aging? Some say it is a magical cream or a magical pill that will solve your aging problem. In order to understand aging, you need to understand what living actually means. Is an object alive? If not, then what is the difference between an object and a living being? If we understand that difference, then we will understand what it means to live. If we understand what it means to live, then we will know what factors influence life to live longer or even live shorter. So lets begin by looking at the difference between an object and a living being.

We know that an object doesn’t live, but what makes an object different then a living being? The answer. Choice. Since objects make the same choice all the time, then by definition, objects don’t actually choose, as they just keep doing the same thing over and over again. It is only when an object can make multiple choices is it considered a living being. For proof, you will not see a blue pen decide to be a red pen, as it will always choose to be a blue pen. However, you can see a human being go from being shy to confident. The difference is that a human can choose to be confident or shy, but a blue pen is forever stuck being a blue pen

If this were the case, then if you take a living being who can make a choice, but can’t remember what choice they made previously, then when the same situation happens again, it would make the same decision over and over again. Since the definition of being an object is making the same choice over and over again, without memory the human will choose the same thing, thus making them an object. So without memory, there can be no living beings because any thing that does the same thing over and over again is an object. Therefore, memory is the first sign of choice and consciousness because once a memory is formed about a choice, then it can refer to that memory to see if it wants that choice again.

Once memory is present, then choice can start. Once choice starts, then people can begin to want and desire because they can now say I want this outcome instead of that outcome. Without want, there can be no choice and without choice, there can be no memory. The more you choose to do the same, the more you become an object. The more variety you add to your life, the more you will remember, choose and want, which means you will be more alive.

Therefore, the creation of the first memory is the start of consciousness. Once memory starts, this is when life begins. Until that moment, your body is a lifeless object because it does not have the ability to choose. Life only happens when you have a choice.

Thus, making choices, creating memories and figuring out what you want defines life. The more you make choices based on what you want, which creates memories, the more you live. The more you have a routine and stop creating memories, the more you will be an object and the more you will die.

Very good examples of people who believe they have no choice and are slowly dying are those people who commit suicide or blow themselves up. These people completely believe that they have no choice. The cure for people like this is to help them come up with multiple choices so that they can create memories and begin to want. For people who like to blow themselves up, why not help them find out multiple different ways to achieve the same end goal? For people about to commit suicide, why not help them out by helping them find ways out of their problem? However, to do such a thing, there must be an understanding that the problem they have is that they think they can’t choose. So telling them they have a choice won’t help them because you just told them instead of letting them choose. You can only help influence them to see that they can make their own choices by asking them questions. Questions about their life will get them thinking about their options in life and what they want. A question will spark an answer from them, which will cause them to believe that they do have a choice because they chose to answer the question. By asking them questions, the person who believes there isn’t a choice will now understand that they have a choice.

Based on this idea of life, you could even say that old people tend to have beliefs that cause their own demise. If old people believe they know everything and they have everything they want, then they will stop making choices, stop being a living being and begin dying. It is only because old people believe that they are different and that they must act a certain way (retire, go to a retirement house, be inactive etc.), they will then act in accordance with those beliefs. Since those beliefs state that they must act only one way, then people are choosing to not make a choice. If you choose to not make a choice, then you become an object and die.

If someone wanted to live forever, the only thing they would have to do is live every day by making more and more choices. Stop doing routines and begin making new ones every day. Get to the same goal, but in a different way. Find a different way to work every day. Eat something new every day. Walk a different path every day. Variety is life. That same variety in your life is the magical formula to stay young, look young, feel great, increase your longevity and slow your aging.
