How You Get What You Want In Life
How we get the results in our life
To begin to understand how you get the results in your life you must understand the process that leads up to getting your results. In order to understand this process, lets walk through a math question.
What is the answer to 30 minus 10 divided 5 plus 6 times 2?
Before I tell you the answer, understand that what just happened was a series of steps that lead you to the answer you just got. In order to understand your result, lets begin to analyze what you did to get the result that you got.
First you read the question.
Then you thought about the math question.
Now I am going to tell you that the answer to the math question is twenty-five.
How do you feel? Stupid? Argumentative?
The truth is that the answer is twenty, but I needed to state twenty-five for a reason. In order to observe any result, you need to think about the result and put it in your own perspective. If you had the answer (or not) and felt argumentative (or stupid), then understand that you read the answer, thought about your answer and then felt an emotion.
The flow of this interaction looks like the following flow diagram:
Note that the process of thought and emotion sometimes happens numerous times before you act. However, you must act in order to get any result. So you cannot just think about what you want in order to get it. You must act in order to get it.
It is important to note that emotion ALWAYS happens AFTER a thought. Emotions do not happen randomly. You will always have a reason as to why you feel good or as to why you feel bad.
Given how we get our results and interpret our results, how can we use this information to get the results that we want in our life?
Lets find out…
Before we being, I want to first ask you which kind of freezie is your favorite?
Mine is Orange.
How did I realize that this flavour is my favourite? Well I tried the other flavours and I realized that this flavour makes me the happiest. So if it wasn’t for experiencing the other flavours, then I would not ever know what flavour is my favourite.
So the journey of life starts with understanding of what you want in life. In order to figure out what you want in life, you must experience the variety of life. To do so, the world must give you experiences that will allow you to say “I like this” and “I don’t like this”.
The flow diagram to the below shows how the world gives you examples of what you might want.
You’ll see that the world will offer you multiple experiences in your life for you to figure out what you like and what you do not like. Without these experiences you will not have any memories to judge whether you want to go along with this new experience or not. This is why we experience both good and bad things within our lives so that you know what is good and what is bad.
With these experiences you can begin to choose whether you want this new experience or not based on your memory. If you choose not to choose and let the world determine your life, then you will continue to experience good and bad experiences throughout your life.
This is why people who state “I’ll know what I want when it comes” have both good and bad experiences with what they want because they have yet to define what it is that they want, which means they are letting the world choose for them. This strategy is correct when there are no previous experiences to judge a new experience, but if someone knows that this experience is a bad one and they still continue doing that action, then that person does not know how to control the happiness in their life.
So How Can You Be Happy All the Time?
To answer this question, lets relook at how we get what we get when we control our experiences. You’ll see that before every action and after every result, there is a thought. One of these thoughts involve asking yourself if this is what you want. If you want something, then you must act to get it. Also, when you get your result you must also interpret it so that you could state that you got what you wanted.
Given that our wants drive us to act and help to determine our results, wouldn’t it be ideal to monitor those thoughts and feelings before our actions and after our results?
Of course.
So by figuring out what you want, monitoring your thoughts to ensure they are in alignment with what you want and acting in alignment with your thoughts, you will begin to control the amount of happiness in your life and achieve the results that you want.
To summarize, the world will present with you questions, which you have a choice to answer. The answer you choose determines your action, which then determines your result. Therefore, the choice, or thought, determines your result. The choices you make are based on the thoughts, memories and feelings that you have, which are all used to determine the best course of action.
